Bobo-Dioulasso is the second largest city in Burkina Faso in terms of population. It is located in the Southern Western region of the Hauts-Bassin, bordering Mali.
L2H supports a Roman Catholic organization, the Franciscaines Missionnaires de Marie ("FMM"), that provides quality primary and secondary education. This community of missionary sisters offers subsidized school access to children from precarious families who cannot afford tuition. It also offers vocational training for young girls and women to help them find a job and supports women active in micro-commerce.
Increasingly, the FMM are providing humanitarian and educational assistance to internally displaced persons ("IDPs"). Since 2015, the country has been the target of terrorist attacks, leading to population displacement. While it had fewer than 50,000 IDPs in January 2019, the country recorded 2.06 million IDPs as of March 31, 2023. According to the Humanitarian Needs Overview 2023, one in five Burkinabé, equivalent to 4.7 million people, requires humanitarian assistance.
