Sénégal

Senegal is one of Africa's most stable democracies. It has had five presidents in its history since independence from France in 1960, with power transferred peacefully between each administration. Senegal is an important anchor to promote peace and security in Western Africa. This stability is however threatened by terrorist activities in neighbouring countries. Senegal faces a key challenge in accelerating economic growth to create more opportunities, in particularly for young people and women.

Literacy rate of adult women stands at 45 % as of 2021. Female secondary school enrollment has steadily improved (51% in 2021), but tertiary female education remains lows, at 12%. The percentage of women in vulnerable employment is 70%. (All data above from worldbank.org, latest data available WBG)
